Why Do I need Auto Insurance?

Auto Insurance is required in Colorado and other states to legally drive on the roads. If you have a license and/or own a vehicle, you must have auto insurance. The state minimum required limits in Arizona are only $25k per person, $50k per occurrence, and $15k of property damage. But that doesn’t mean those rates are right for you, especially if you have a teen driver, own a home or business, or have a large number of assets.

Don’t worry our experienced agents will do a thorough intake survey with you to be sure that we take all of these factors into account and we won’t try to sell you on more or less car insurance coverage than you really need.

What is generally covered in an auto insurance policy?

Every car insurance policy is different so it is important that you go in knowing what most policies cover so you can compare apples to apples and be sure you are covered as needed.

Bodily Injury Liability- Super important you have this! Bodily Injury Liability Insurance coverage pays for the medical expenses that you cause other people through an at-fault accident. This coverage will pay up to your policy limits. If the medical expenses exceed your coverage limits, this can have a significant effect on your financial future. In this case having higher limits or an umbrella policy can protect you beyond the state limits.

Property Damage- If you cause an accident, this type of insurance pays to repair or replace damaged property such as the other persons car or even personal property, city property, etc. Higher limits and even an umbrella policy can help protect you further.

Medical Payments- This coverage protects you and your passengers in the event of an injury due to an auto accident.  Medical payments coverage applies regardless of fault in an auto accident.  It pays accident-related medical expenses up to the policy limit.  It includes coverage for chiropractic care – something many of us don’t have coverage for in our health insurance plans.  This optional coverage can be applied to co-payments, co-insurance and deductibles.

Comprehensive (Other than Collision) Coverage Often referred to as comp coverage – this pays to repair or replace your damaged car from things other than collision. Think fire, theft, falling objects, vandalism, and more. This is an optional coverage and not required in most states.

Collision Coverage So your insurance usually pays to repair or replace the other persons car but does it cover your own car replacement? Be sure you have collision coverage on your auto policy if your car is worth replacing. This is an optional coverage but sometimes required if you carry a loan on your car.

Towing & Labor Coverage- This optional car insurance coverage can help if you need towing if your vehicle breaks down, if you need your car battery jumped, if you locked yourself out of the car and more. Discuss your situation with our agents and see if this is a good idea for you.

Rental Reimbursement- Car rental reimbursement is another optional coverage that helps to pay for the cost of a rental car while your vehicle is being repaired after a car accident.

Full Glass Coverage- This is an optional coverage, but it can come in very handy in Arizona and other states with high instances of rocks kicking up off the highway. Depending on your insurer, the deductible can be little to $0 out of pocket to repair or replace glass on a covered vehicle.

Rideshare- If you drive for Uber or Lyft, make sure that you ask about this type of auto insurance coverage. Don’t hope you’re covered – be sure you are.
